Too easy! I have installed other ODBC connections before and am familiar
with your accurate instructions below. For some reason, (I must be going
blind!) I never saw the Rbase 7.1 driver there before and assumed I needed
to purchase something. (Another "included feature" for the great all in one
Rbase package!)

In any case, thanks to all for the replies! I now have live, instant updates
on shipping information to and from the UPS shipping system. The shipping
personnel scan a barcode on our shipping papers using the UPS system and
all shipping info is immediately retrieved from Rbase (live and 100% up to
date).
As soon as the World Ship program prints the label, the Rbase database is
updated with tracking numbers, total weight, total shipping cost, shipdate and
number of packages. Again, live and instant! This saves a tremendous amount
of manual key punching and again the data is real time.

As others say... Rbase Rocks!

Thanks again.

Bob,
To create a DSN for your database: (Win2K)

>From Control Panel, choose Administrative Tools and then Data Sources
(ODBC). Click on the System DSN Tab and click ADD. Choose the RB7.x
Driver and click Finish. Provide a name for the DSN and then the path
AND file name for the RB1 file and a description if you wish.

Subject: [RBG7-L] - ODBC Connection

I am currently working with UPS to have our Order Entry database (Rbase
7.1)
updated by thier WorldShip software. (Items such as tracking number,
totals packages, ship date etc.)

I have used Rbase in a number of applications using ODBC to retrieve and
update data in other ODBC database connections, but never using another
package to update an Rbase database. I see that there is an ODBC DSN
for the Concomp database. My question is how do you create an ODBC
connection to an existing Rbase database? Is this a separate purchase
that should be made and if so what is it? Ottero?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Again I use Rbase to manipulate
several other foreign databases all the time with great success, but
this is the first time I am trying to access data with Rbase from the
outside!

Thanks in advance.
-Bob
