This made me think - I'm not sure I've ever run tires narrower than
28. (Or 27x1 1/8) Had the latter on my road bike in the 1980's when
I fell in love with mountain biking. Then just ran "narrow" 1.9
Ritchey tires until I stopped riding. Getting back in a few years
ago, it was a mountain bike with 2.1" tires. Since then, the most
narrow tires I've tried are probably 32s. Might have had a set of 28s
on one bike. But got rid of that one fairly quickly. Too skinny.

Because of my preferences in riding, even the Jack Brown tires seem
narrow these days. They're not. But my own biases are showing.

The Atlantis handles great with Big Apple 2 inch wide tires. 40/50 psi
front/rear. A really plush ride. (Again, kudos to Jim at Hiawatha
for turning me on to building an Atlantis that's out of the ordinary.)

At 240 and commuting with 15 pounds of gear, wide tires are the only
way I'd go. Speed is not my concern. Comfort is. If I'm not
comfortable, won't be riding. Simple as that.
