(for the record, I did not do that particular ride. I have done others ) I'm 53. My riding buddy who did the ride in just over 21 hours is, oh, 48. She rides a custom Sweetpea which weighs a ton. More than my fully-loaded Bleriot. Two other women on the ride, at least one in her 50's. Four women, and you don't want to get trumped by GIRLS do you? :-)
The oldest rider on that particular ride is 68, and he's very, very fast. Many of the riders were over 50. My informal observation at the start of Pacific Northwest brevets is that the majority of the participants are older - 40's, 50's and older. Bike weight - my hot little Lemond weighs 19 lbs. My Bleriot weighs 29 lbs. Of course, it has fenders, two racks, and lighting.
