Went for a nice ride early this morning. After the rains last night, everything was soaked. That means nice dark, rich colors on the roads, woods, and grass, dirt, etc. Pretty. ~40 degrees. Fog, beautiful light. I rode out from the house down through old Ellicott City, where there are old stone row houses from many years ago. All downhill to River road, for some nice secluded pretty flat riding along the river. Then onto the Grist Mill Trail, which runs several miles through the woods and along the same waterway. Beautiful morning light and quiet, riding with hardly anyone else around. Went on a new road that became gravelly and muddy. But had fun getting mud splashed on me and the bike. Small waterfalls along the way were overflowing, I guess from the snow melting. Trail had about 3 inches of moving water running across it at one area which was great for cleaning the tires and fenders. The return head-windy climb up through Ellicott City and into the suburban area was tough (for me anyway). Not steep but pretty constant for a couple miles. The kind of climbing that is frustrating as all get out and makes you want to scream as you are riding along. Aaaahhhhhh!!!!! But it was all part of the fun. I am not a strong rider, so I am sure some of you Riv-peeps would blow right by me. But good training to hit the toughest part at the end of the ride I guess.
