My most ambitious pre-work ride to date,~40 miles up to Great Falls MD on the C&O Towpath for coffee outside and then to work! The 0400 wake up was unpleasant but justified. And amazingly I found a partner for this hairbrained ride in my friend Joe. We met in Georgetown at the trailhead of the C&O/Capitol Crescent Trail at 0500 and had a thrilling early morning ride along the canal. Lots of wildlife including a 3 point buck so close I could have tweaked his nose (not recommended) and many, many Great Blue Heron out for a morning snack and glide along the canal basin. Anyone in the Mid Atlantic area who hasn't taken advantage of the C&O and particularly Great Falls should put this spectacular place on their short list. A mere 13 miles from downtown DC and you get a world class view! Riv Content; The green Saluki performed flawlessly, I am loving the noodle bars after two weeks of riding with this setup. My coffee kit was contained in my Shopsack medium in Wald 137 basket and my work clothes in my Carradice longflap. This was my best opportunity to date to use the B&M Cyo Premium headlight in its new mounting location (see picture) and it worked out great. Joe said he thought I was a car when I pulled into Georgetown! The offcenter mounting isn't perfect but I love how protected the light now is in comparison to its centerline, frontmost status on the bike previously. The GB Hetres (extra legre) continue to be my favorite tires ever, the C&O towpath surface is often critisized but I found it to be just fine and largely dry on Friday. Joe's bike is his sweet UBI-built steel, fillet brazed machine nicknamed 'Frankie'. He had it clear powdercoated and we put a 10 speed 105 group on it, he's been riding it as his daily commuter for about a month or two now. He is fairly resistant to the fat tired, upright riding mantra but this bike is pretty upright and at least has 32mm tires and will be getting fenders soon. All around great ride, amazing view and good company. Over the last two weeks I've put in more miles than in any other two consecutive weeks to date, I definitely feel like I've been riding more. More the weather than anything else but I'm feeling stronger and stronger as a rider and looking forward to many more adventures this summer! <https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-nf6pCPx6uYA/U6bEoratCaI/AAAAAAAAEZE/Ez9Fzv531Uc/s1600/DSC_3866.jpg> -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
