Like you, I have a big noggin.  Like you, I picked up a cheap Bell helmet
at my LBS.  I got the XLV, which is what they had.

It's been a good helmet for almost a year.  However, the adjustable pads at
the crown are simply falling apart.  The velcro has separated from the
fuzzy cloth padding.

You get what you pay for, obviously.  A good cheap helmet is still a cheap
helmet.  Keep an eye on those pads, hopefully they're more substantial in
the one you bought.

I'm pretty tempted to try one of the Bern helmets; my girlfriend has one
and loves it.
