I am very serious under my foolish exterior. I very much would like to rig
a Nico carrying system but patience (as I hitherto understand it) and
treats haven't worked.

I got Nico from the pound -- interesting aside: my daughter and I were
walking through the kennel aisles where it seemed that every 5th dog was a
Chihuahua (this was 2011). All were rushing up to the wire snarling and
barking with bared teeth. Nico (oversize and a year old at the time) was
standing at the gate with a breathy smile. I rather disliked C's at the
time, but his "smile" won me over.

Back to the point: but while in certain ways N is more calm than many C's
--perhaps bigger ones are less frenetic? He was 8 lb at 1 yr and I'm sure
at least 9 now -- he is very, very afraid of being transported, be this in
the car, being picked up; and certainly with any portable container -- this
true even after 3 years of (I think) love.

So: do I simply have a hopeless case, or are their methods to win over even
a portage-paranoid dog?

Patrick Moore, remembering the time when his "mellow a l'outrance" Shi Tzu
took a massive leap to get into the front seat of my 1990 Voyager: and
found the door closed.
