I do totally support using whatever works properly, even if it's the "cheaper" or "lower quality" item (although in my mind ultimate functionality is the true test of quality). In the case of the Nitto lugged posts, however, no other seatpost on the market offers ~40mm of setback so at least in my case it was that post or nothing to get the fit I wanted, especially with a Brooks.
