I definitely hammered down the edges of copper rivets on the Quickbeam's B17. I think I also hammered the edges of steel rivets, but I'm not sure. I don't think you'll damage the integrity of a rivet by removing material from its head, but since they're designed to be hammered, I'd try that first.
