I've had success with pinhole glasses. I'd highly recommend them. They are all I use now for close work. My need for glasses was only for reading and writing a couple of years after I turned 40. I've never needed glasses for general use, so YMMV, but the claims are that general vision improves with use and I believe that to be the case for my distance vision too.
