Kelly,  if I were starting life all over all my bikes would have Paul's neo 
retro cantis.  I have the Racer brake on my tandem with 38 mm tires and 
managed to squeeze in 60 mm VO fenders.  The brakes are specked for on 54 
mm which still leaves room  for a 55 mm vender which could work.  I know 
they're expensive but they will last a lifetime and all the small parts are 
available and affordable.  Here are the specs.
