Aluminum are lighter (650B X 50 Honjos are about 1 lb; Berthoud dittos in ss are 1.5 lb; haven't weighed equivalent PBs), but if the bike is going to see rough use I personally would choose ss or plastic. I've got PB 60s on the Fargo and they stand up to banging and pressure; and they're almost as quiet (not quite) as metal ones. Metal ones tend to dent, IME.
