Don't bother going to Mt. Diablo if you are in Berkeley and will have a 
MTB.  I highly recommend Joaquin Miller Park in the Oakland hills.  Lots of 
legal singletrack and you can get there by bike w/o too much trouble.  

Make your way up to Grizzly Peak Blvd and turn left on Skyline.  Skyline 
will take you right there.  I would suggest looping in Redwood Park and 
Roberts Park for addition miles.  One "classic" is to do the Joaquin Miller 
trails before or after the Eastridge/Westridge loop (CCW is better) in 
Redwood Park.  You can't really get lost because the nearest road isn't far 
away, but it sure feels like you could.

If you park a car there, don't leave valuables in the car.  Never had any 
issue personally, but there are plenty of thefts reported.
