My long rides are your short rides, but I use poly cotton and nylon boxers and they work fine as long as they are loose enough; the test: I don't think about them. Low humidity here, of course.
I daresay that organic cotton ones will act much like poly cotton ones. Again, I think that success depends on a loose, full cut. I wear them under cotton khaki shorts in summer, under wool knickers and synthetic tights (loose ones) in winter. Tighter undies, cotton and nylon, short or longer legs, bound and chafed.
