Your family sounds pretty great -- awesome kids, MIL, DH , and you -- the 
whole package -- yay for you all! 

It's great she's got a shop with an appreciative and supportive staff -- 
here that's not so likely in 2/3 of our shops.  When you go home perhaps 
you can stop in with a beverage (is that guy 21?) for the mechanic and 
gently show him how fenders and the Iris cage are supposed to be mounted!
