With the forecast unseasonably warm over the weekend, figured it was time
to go camping. The overnight low was -9C, daytime high of +1C. In January!

We decided to ride to the mouth of a small river in a park about 45 minutes
outside of the city. We began on the frozen Red River, cautiously coasting
past ice skaters. Zero traction here, don't touch the brakes! We stuck to
mostly single-track along the river banks or quiet side roads, making the
ride out quite enjoyable. Once we hit the park, we found some glorious
snow-packed and twisty single track that led us to a fallen tree on the
river ice. Perfect camp spot for the night. The fallen tree would provide
us some shelter from snowmobile traffic, if there was any. You never know
when someone drunk and speeding at 150km/h might come along in your sleep...

At night the clouds blew off, and we were treated to a clear silvery full
moon, so bright it woke everyone up. We admired our camp spot bathed in the
moonlight for a while, then back to sleep.

Compared to my last outdoor winter s24o, this time I was substantially
warmer. I slept soundly and couldn't imagine being more comfortable
honestly. A layer of snow on the ice provided a soft surface to sleep on,
and the riverbank sheltered us from the wind. All in all it was possibly my
favourite s24o I've ever done.

Cheers!

Riv note - This was my first ride after treating the Atlantis with Fluid
Film frame saver. So far so good. I also rode with Thunder Burts again
(2.1") and they were fantastic.
