Act I

Scene 1 - (A cluttered garage with several bikes, all very nice and with
the exception of one carbon mountain bike, all steel lugged bikes.)

We find René, lovingly looking at his Cheviot and thinking about the best
way to fender it. This is for the long haul, he says... better do it right.
He puts the Cheviot on the rack and starts testing Honjo fenders to plan
the process. These aren't drilled at all, so the work is more involved than
installing Berthouds, but he feels like trying the smooth 50mm Honjos.

After the first evaluation which confirms that even with the 38mm tires,
the fit was going to be tight with the Tektro brakes, he decides that he
has no choice but to just switch the bike to a full Paul centerpull setup.
That's the only way to maximize clearance front and rear, even if he just
feels comfortable fitting the 38mm tires for safety.

Scene 3 - (In the living room)

Browsing the web, he orders the Origin 8 single cable stop clamp in order
to be able to install the rear Paul centerpull. No other choice, since the
braze-ons are under the top tube. He doesn't "love" the clamp, and would
like to eventually find a nicer one, but the only other choice he can
see are the double ones which he likes even less. Perhaps he may find some
vintage NOS that will look nicer, but so far the search only shows clamped
cable guides, not stops.

Scene 4 - (back in the garage)

Having no other option but to wait, he decides to swap the handlebars on
his Atlantis from the 42mm Compass Rando Bar to the 40mm one, just like the
one he has on his custom and which he seems to like better. It gives him
something to do as he loves working on his bikes.

End of Act I
