Someone offered me a very nice Phil, but it turns out to be a Ti model and
thus costs more than I should spend at this point.

I am looking for a good quality one, preferably a rebuildable one
(rebuildable by me or rebuildable by the maker) instead of a disposable
one.

A SunTour grease guard model would be very nice! So would a used, steel,
and cheaper Phil. Even a high end cup and cone would be acceptable, though
I'd prefer something relatively well sealed.

And a little Serendipity: just re-discovered that the cheap Shimano
cartridge bb in the Apex frame is ... 127! So I have something to start
with.

Segue: Am debating whether to keep the current 44/40 gearing, but with 28
granny instead of 26; or whether to simplify, give up some mid ring bottom
end, and use a bash guard, 40/28, as below.

The wheel is 28 1/2" in diameter, and the most commonly used gears, for the
flatland bosque riding that this bike mostly sees, are in yellow.
