Muck boots! With wool socks...can't be beat for working outside.  They also 
make an excellent commuter boot in early winter and Spring.  For the last three 
years I was using some inexpensive rubber boots that were MUSA (servus). They 
were great but didn't breath well if you weren't moving around (car).

They finally split at the heal and I treated myself to Muk boots (the real 
ones, "Muck brand").  So far these breath a lot better and they're a bit warmer 
as well.

For cold cold weather (below 20 F) I use Sorels with a wool liner.
