".... interfered with mounting the tandem on the car rack." The "S" at the bottom of both the Tara and the Duo can create mounting problems with transport racks using the fork for retention. I've seen some rather clever hacks that essentially raise the fork clamp to provide clearance for the rack. Note that this problem exists with any low rider that extends below the drop out, and should be considered if frequent bike transport is expected.
