Yes, it works, and well at that. Use a strap to make it happy, and perhaps 
a stiffener (I've used a flattish stick) to keep the front from sagging too 
much if not stuffed). I've taken to using a long leather lash strap (from 
Riv) to secure my trucksacks of either size as the snaps pop open on my 
rides (washboard/singletrack).
