If you want to box them up yourself, most independent bike shops usually have bike boxes that they are happy to get rid of (REI breaks them down too quickly). If you stop by on the days they unboxed new shipments, they're usually happy to give them to you. We used bike boxes to sheet mulch our lawn so it took a couple of weeks of stopping by a couple of shops to get enough boxes.
