        You may want to peruse the archives of the tandem list and see what 
holds up well on tandems. 
In the past, I've had very good luck with Phil wood freewheel hubs but their 
cassette hubs don't seem to have the same durability. 

I have little experience with cassette hubs but I've seen numerous glowing 
reviews for various Shimano hubs. 

You may also check with Peter White for his recommendation. 
He sells lots of wheels to touring riders and has many years of experience 
getting feedback on equipment.
