Patrick, I think you're absolutely right. Long before the "poop doping" 
article, I've been interested in the benefits of bacteria in the gut. It seems 
quite likely that in trying to make everything "sterile" we have eliminated a 
great deal of healthy bacteria that our systems have benefitted from since the 
beginning. I had previously read about healthy fecal matter being introduced 
into people's guts that cured chronic illnesses (I don't recall which illness, 
because I'm kind of dumb) so I believe there is evidence of efficacy.
