Didn't Haldeman's bike (featured in a long ago Reader) have a 3 speed
freewheel with no derailleurs?
FWIW, when Tim came through ABQ, we did a ride on the nice Rio Grande bike
path; 30 miles for me, but he added 10 or 15 more by riding to our
trailhead meeting place from his hotel and back again.
I had wanted to do the Tramway ride, but I was feeling too tired to do it
in a 67" ("bailout") gear that day.
