You’re conclution is correct, Joe. There is a difference. I needed a 9 speed chain for my Hunqapillar (pre-fixed, when it has a 9 speed cassette) and an 8 speed chain for the DOS Eno freewheel on my Quickbeam. Now, the Quickbeam’s dingle cog requires 9 speed chain, but the chain line is good enough on the Quickbeam that an 8 speed can work.
