I have Berthoud fenders on three bikes. I also have hammered Honjos on 
another bike. I prefer the Berthouds - I think they look nicer, and the 
struts are definitely superior to any others that I've seen. If you ride 
off a kerb, the Berthoud mudflap folds up out of the way without any 
damage. I've accidentally done the same with the Honjos, and the bottom of 
the front fender crunches into the concrete kerb and gets bent. I can also 
put a Berthoud-fendered bike on a roofrack carrier that clamps the front 
fork dropouts - the mudflap again just folds out of the way. With Honjo 
fenders, the fender has to be removed before fitting the bike on the 
carrier.

My commute bike has had the same pair of Berthoud fenders on it for about 
20 years, and they're still holding up without any problem.
