My experience with Hammocks:

Grear:
- Wilderess logic Tadpole tarp with door kit
- Dutch hexon 11' hammock with fixed ridge line (highly recommend the fixed
RL!) and fronkey net
- Hammock Gear Incubator under quilt
- Sleeping bag or poncho liner or light blanket
- Dutch extra long kevlar straps that I attach via marlin spike knot.

Pros:
- Most confortable sleep ever. In hammock I sleep on back even though I am
a stomach sleeper.
- Vastly superior in the rain. You are above the wet not in the wet.
- Gear stays cleaner
- If you set up tarp first you can do the rest in the dry
- Modular, depending on conditions I will not use certain elements of the
kit
- Allows you to often find a spot that tent campers can't use

Cons:
- Takes longer to set up perfectly - I am fickle about that. Hammock takes
about 20 minutes start to finish, my tent is ready in 5.
- You can't comfortable share a hammock
- Needs trees or similar
- Full kit is bulkier and heavier than my solo tent setup
- Getting in and out is a little bit more annoying. Like when you are
perfectly comfy and then realise you need to use the bathroom kinda sucks.
- You need to get a little more creative when it comes to gear storage, but
there are plenty of solutions. I use a ridge line organizer and a tivek
sheet on the ground or a just clip stuff to the tree straps.
- Learning curve.
- Temptation to mess with setup.
- Can get expensive fast

All in all I am 60/40 in terms of hammock/tent use. I vastly prefer the
hammock, but sometimes it just does not work out.

Hope this helps!
