When I owned a Sam (in case it's pertinent, this was the original model, I
think) I found the wheel flop somewhat excessive. Shod with ~32 mm Jack
Brown Greens, t certainly carved downhill corners well, but sitting up and
pedaling up steep hills in low gears left the front end so light that I too
was disconscerted by the front end's tendency to wander. It would not have
been the deal breaker -- in fact, I got rid of it because it was too
betwixt and between; neither roady enough to enjoy fully on pavement, not
capable of tires nearly fat enough for our dirt. A Sam that took 700C X 60
mm tires would have been a joy and a keeper -- I usually climb standing,
anyway.

Upshot: the wandering tendency may well be due to geometry and not to rider
position. Note that my other Rivs do, or did, not exhibit this errant
tendency.
