Thanks, you guys. I will have to think about what to do. Sounds like short or mid will work. Short with limitations.
But I usually only dump to the small front ring when I need to get up steep hills I can't get up on middle ring with the 40 x 32. Usually don't go into small chainring otherwise. Full dump to my lowest gear when I do. Then back to the big ring at the top. But, might be disatrous if I forget and go cross-chaining off the small chainring with a shortie RD.
