The so cal all rounder group, SCAR, will have lots of good info on Long Beach area rides. I’ve never made it to one of their rides but I’ve ripped off their routes one or two times after the fact. You’ll be close to the beach and Irvine hills, and a train ride away from some great trails. You can also ride the river bike path up to LA. It has nice and not nice sections, but you’ll see more of the la river than most ever do. As far as theft goes, it’s Southern California, so fairly bad. Bring a good lock.
