It was very unusual even there then, and I wonder if it wasn't some escaped pet -- you saw dik dik at night in the area -- like coyotes in the SW US -- but nothing so large, and certainly nothing so white. I was going hard, head down and almost fell off the bike when it crossed my way.
The biggest thing I've been startled by here in ABQ was an agressive gander near the Tingley Park recreational area, though I've ridden through a daytime pack of coyotes.
