Regardless, any of these would make a good wool jersey. "MR. RETRO" and we'll have to do a small run of "MS. RETRO" until we can get more women here!
Many of us have commented that we get this kind of treatment on lugged steel bikes. Grant's also written about this. The comments on our "commuters" or "old bikes" or "retro equipment" are really little badges of honor, that if we could, would make nice patches on our saddlebags. I also think about it whenever I watch television advertising and there is always a "new technology" for lotion, cleaning products, or razors. People are suckers for this sell. Folks talk about "price points" instead of prices. We are intertwined with the logic of marketing. Clearly, a MCRB is light, and that makes a difference over long distances, but not in terms of comfort. Not in durability, not in longevity, not in craft or grace or beauty. Not in common sense for those of us who are finishing doubles at 15:17 (that was my time)! And not for those of us who are not professional racers or sponsored. I need not a heartrate monitor and I don't have a computer. I try to pay attention to the rhythm of my body and the sensory experience of riding wherever I'm riding. SO RETRO!
