You're not going to like the seatpost/stem extension on a 51 Appa if it bothered you on a 52 Clem.
I'm 80ish PBH, short arms and fit well on a 55 Cheviot. I think the fit should work for you, but you're correct that it might be a little underbuilt (maybe talk to Riv about it). For a stout Riv with a tad more standover than your Sam, take a look at the 54 Hunqapillar on Ebay.
