You are the power source.  The closest thing to a battery on a dynamo system is the standlight capacitor.  Battery stores charge, dissipates it over time, eventually dies - faster in the cold. Generator makes power as you go; run time is infinite, limited only by the rider, and temperature insensitive.  Also, as batteries age they lose capacity, so the system that this year may be good for 4 commutes in 3 years may dim out after 3 1/2.  And you never have to remember in advance with a generator system to charge it to get ready for use.  You forget you even have a dynamo system until you need it, at which point you flip a switch and there it is.

Roberta, you’ll have to share everything you learn if you get dyno before I do!

I think the description of how I like my bike set up is: CAPABLE. Ready for
anything. I never want to worry about not having lights or not being able to
carry something or having to compromise or settle. My End of the World Bike:
Ready. Smart. And darn pretty.

Then a dynamo system is totally in line with your philosophy.
