Paul, I'm the same age as Bill and feel exactly as he does. Still sharp on the bike versus the car. I commute daily and on the weekends have "joy rides" with my wife on road bikes....often in high-traffic areas. We both frequently remind each other to ride (very) defensively and then focus on holding our lines, always expecting the unexpected from cars and sometimes a fellow cyclist. Perhaps if you found a riding partner or went out with a friendly group would alleviate the apprehension?
