It's from an era when disc weren't the norm on tandems and that's what Riv was 
going for. It's primarily a v-brake bike with what is called a 'drag brake' for 
scrubbing off the speed of two people on a big descent. On a long bike with a 
rear passenger the rear brake can do a lot more work than on a single, so the 
disc makes sense back there instead of stressing the fork.
