Darn.  I'm pretty sure this is the cheviot that was stolen from me in December 2021.  I lived in East Hollywood and it was taken from right outside my apartment.  I'm not positive but it's the wheels and the leather zip-tied chain stay protector that really do it for me.  Mine had the same mis-matched wheels, mavic 319 to Shimano hub on the rear, shutter precision to velo orange rim on the front. Same leather zip tied chain stay protector. Had those same tires on it too (can't remember if they were on at the time of theft).  Unfortunately I never filed a police report, didn't think there was much hope in Los Angeles for having stolen bikes recovered at the time, and I did not yet know about the bike index (all my bikes are now registered there).  I'm sure it's changed hands many times since then, I don't have Facebook or even the serial number.   Could just be a coincidence after all.

I suspect it's a 56, not a 57.  I don't think those were made in 57.  I've always wanted that frame..but it's probably a bit too big for me.  I purchased a 56cm HIllborne from Rivendell the same year that was likely release.  (2008/2009).  Also shorter chain stays.  Had the frame repaired and repainted a couple years ago.

I think the Rivendell production schedule plays a role in it too. You could be looking at a two year wait for certain frames (or indefinitely if they decide to retire a model!) and some people are willing to pay the have-it-now premium even if it means paying at or near retail for a lightly used frame.

Inflation of prices in the resell market is interesting. When a product is listed at what seems to be an inflated price I think the seller is hoping to find a buyer who is willing to pay a premium, knowing that most buyers will pass. It only takes one!  The Rivendell name obviously has a well-earned reputation for quality and for a bicycle frame design with a particular ride quality. This reputation means used products will bring more money in the used market. The TIG welded Roadini is an interesting test case though. It is priced higher than a new one but less than the newer fully lugged version. We will see what price it brings.

The Rivendell tax is getting ridiculous on the used market. Sales are slow, the economy is headed into the dumpster, there's no excuse for these silly prices.

The market may bear it, but if memory serves, these were $900 new.
It's the TIG'd Roadini, not the lugged one.

This is the first TIG Roadini I've seen for sale.. I expected a minor avalanche of lightly used bikes after the lugged ones became available.
Go figure.

I've been keeping an eye out, since it might be a good gateway drug into the cult. So far, nada.

Another one of those frustrating listings. Lots of detail regarding the components is missing from the photos and listing. No pictures of the crankset, cassette or derailers. Crankset looks like a Sugino XD2? I think the hubs are Phil. Shimano cantis, shifters and brake levers.
