Hi Bob, the Cleary Owl 3-speed is still a really solid choice, especially
for a kid under 50 lbs who doesn’t need disc brakes or a suspension fork.
If you find one used, it’s one of the best beginner bike
<https://freshfads.com/blog/recommended-bikes-for-beginners> options
because it’s light, simple, and easy for a young rider to control. If it
doesn’t pop up, a few other bikes are worth watching for: the Frog 44, the
Btwin Riverside 100, and the Early Rider Belter. All three keep things
uncomplicated, don’t weigh a ton, and are built well enough to handle real
riding without overwhelming a new kid on a bike. They’re good alternatives
that fit the same “no-nonsense, beginner-friendly” vibe you’re looking
for.
