Hi all (and thanks, Chefd!), Yes, the bike is for sale, and for clarification, it is located in Oakland. I previously sold my first green Quickbeam, which was located in Avila Beach, due to moving to a home with a long, steep hill. That bike sold for $1,800 without a saddle and was well used in nice condition.
I had hip replacement surgery 10 weeks ago and was riding steep hills (see Canyon/Perfuma Canyon) just three weeks post-surgery, using a 42–10/51 drivetrain. Most of my riding pleasure is riding steep terrain. While my new hip is truly a marvel, even surpassing this Quickbeam! , I’m ready to move on as I approach my 70s. This silver Quickbeam is in excellent condition, significantly better than my green one, and is an absolute joy to ride. Thanks to its ingenious manual two-speed capability, I often rode from Oakland and climbed to the top of Skyline via the steepest and most beautiful route starting on Alvarado. In my opinion, the Quickbeam is superior to the current Roaduno for riding on both pavement and fire roads. Achieving two speeds requires no extra chain, chain tensioners, derailleur, or other complications. It’s incredibly stable and rides no-handed with ease, yet remains very responsive thanks to its less exaggerated rear triangle. I’ve been told by the folks at Rivendell that the rear dropout made this bike particularly challenging to manufacture, which is where much of the genius lies. Roaduno would be a better design for single track and more focus off road. The quickbeam is a ripper. Upgraded components like Paul and Suzie brakes are major pluses. At $2,222, this bike is a steal, and I will miss it greatly. It has been replaced by a 56T Fairlight Strael (42–10/51) with the same handlebars as both of my Quickbeams.
