On the tangent topic of low-maintenance builds: my Raleigh Twenty is built with Sturmey Archer hubs: drum brake, dynamo, 5spd internally geared. I have daydreamed about building a Roaduno with these hubs. They are utterly weatherproof and super low maintenance. I find a single speed chain can get away with very sparse lubrication vs a geared chain.
But realistically my Twenty is already perfected in this regard: in addition to this hub set, it's got full coverage fenders, Schwalbe GT365 all-weather tires, and an Albatross bar. It has a Chris King headset and Phil Wood BB, so those are both as sealed from the elements as they can be. It could live outside and still last for years, but it lives in my building's bike room. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
