six of us rode the 100k healdsburg century this weekend together. our goal was to average 18+ mph( ride time). i like to ride my roadeo on these rides because: 1) i am extremely comfortable on the bike ; 2) the bike has the uncanny combination of being extremely stable on downhills and carves turns like a mini cooper ; and,3) my roadeo is a cool bike. after leaving the start, we eventually settled into a 20-22mph cruise and were easily above 18 average into the first stop with everyone( 2men, 4 women, ages 53-59 ) feeling great. leaving the stop we slowly got up to our pace and when we hit the hills we would slow to a pace comfortable to the slowest climber. we rode like this until about we made the turn towards home and had, predominantly, a tailwind. we climbed faster and picked the speed on the flats and ended up with an 18.2 average. nobody got dropped. at the end we were tired, but everyone was smiling like a bunch of kids. it just can't get any better. don c.
