I can't tell if Garth is making a joke here or not.  His comment is 
correct, and it's because Google Groups is at its core an email service. 
 You can't edit your post for the same reason you can't go and edit an 
email you've already sent to a few thousand people.  When you post on 
Google Groups you are sending an email to a few thousand people.  Once that 
email is sent, it is sent.  There is no un-sending it, and there is no 
editing it.  Many of the long time users ONLY interact with this group via 
their email client.
