I just bought a roll of this stuff called "Rescue Tape". It's a silicone
elastick-y thing about an inch wide in a number of colors. I got it to
dress the ends of some computer cabling snakes, but after using it for that,
it seems like there would be a myriad of other applicatons. It can be used
like heat-shrink tubing, without the heat.

Basically, you wind it around itself and it binds to itself after a few
minutes. You can put it under significant pressure when you wrap. It's
supposed to be water/chemical/etc proof once it binds. You cannot unwrap it
once fused - you've got to cut it off. It doesn't bind to the suface it's
wrapped around.

Anyway, you might look for some (~$10 per roll). It won't leave adhesive
residue like duct or electrical tape, but with a few turns, it will
definitely silence a rattle.

hope that helps,

- Jim
