I've been looking at Tarp Tents for my next tent for a long while,
though haven't gotten around to picking one up. Cool to hear you've
had good results with yours in this area Stewart. The Double Rainbow
sleeps two and weighs 2 1/2 lbs. That could be my choice for S24Os (or
longer) with my seven-year-old son. Henry Shires is super nice too,
and very helpful. Seems like a very Rivendellish company.
For for one person trips, the Tarp Tent Moment looks very cool. <http://tarptent.com/moment.html

Double Rainbow would be fine....)
For solo trips I'm also intrigued by hammocks, especially this one: <http://warbonnetoutdoors.com/blackbirds.php

I've read.

One more for the Seedhouse SL2. Mostly because of its small pack

on the bike. That mattered a lot to me. I got it on sale at REI.
The Tarp Tent stuff is pretty rad.
Indeed, the Tarptents are very nice. I use a Contrail for solo bike
camping and couldn't be happier. They are single layer, which may be
a deal breaker for some. I think it's a fair trade off for the light
weight and small packing size. The Contrail at least also has a dead
simple and very fast set up. They have a nice variety of 2 person
tents, too. (http://tarptent.com/products.html)
