Sorry for the late response, but I used a Dremmel to grind down the
inside of the headset locknut.  You could also use a round file, but
it is just going to take longer.  Just take the headset locknut off
and see if you can get the stem to fit.  If you can, then you may just
need to modify the locknut, but if you can't then you are going to
need to do something else.  I did this following Sheldon Brown's

If you follow that link and scroll down to the Handlebars/Stems
section, you will see it.
