Typically, that is the domain of the publisher. Any publisher should be doing all they can to maintain control over the specific property, which they are handing for the author. It's clearly an area in flux - the means of publishing are really changing these days - but, the rights to printed copies, electronic copies, audiobook verions, etc should all be spelled out in the contract with the author.
