I have a 59 cm AHH with side pull brakes and the fender tire set up in the
title. Technically this set up does work. With the bike in the stand I get
clearance for the fenders, which I must say look beautiful, but out on the
road any vibration and braking causes the fenders to contact the tires just
slightly. Not enough to slow me down or even cause a noticeable resistance
but just enough to make one of those annoying sounds that I hate to hear
when riding. I cannot seem to adjust this out. Maybe it is just nitpicky and
it probably shouldn’t bother me but it does. It doesn’t make sense to me to
replace 80 dollars worth of tires for 40 dollars worth of fender so I have
decided to remove the fenders. If I get to the point where I want to replace
the tires I will go with something a little narrower and put the fenders
back on, but it may be a while because I have yet to wear out a pair of
Marathons.

This is not a big issue for me because I have my Surly with fenders and if
the weather looks like I may need fenders it will give me a good reason to
ride that bike, but if I was ordering again I would go with slightly
narrower tires like maybe the 700x35. I have read before that Schwalbe
sizes their tires a little different than other brands so maybe someone
using a different brand with these fenders can add some experience.
