This really sucks. I live in the same apartment building as the victim, and I was the person who set up the bike racks. There were at least five bikes stolen, along with some wheels and one saddle+post. The bikes were all locked to the racks, some with cables plus u-locks, others with u-locks. The garage is protected by a keypad-coded garage door. That is the main theft prevention device. I always hypothesized that once a thief got in, none of the bikes would be safe if the thief was really prepared. The thief tried to get through the cable securing two of my bikes, but it looks like he/she/they couldn't make it through the cable. I don't remember the brand, but I bought it because it was heavy duty. It wasn't Onguard or Kryptonite or MasterLock.
That Surly was nice, and something special given the couplers. Here's some of my documentation: http://tinyurl.com/3fleq8m Lee SF, CA On Thu, Aug 11, 2011 at 2:13 PM, Rex Kerr <rexk...@gmail.com> wrote: > On Thu, Aug 11, 2011 at 1:21 PM, John Bennett <johnat...@gmail.com> wrote: >> >> Nabbed it out of his garage. >> >> http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/bik/2541745595.html >> >> Thanks for keeping your eyes peeled. > > > After some neighbors lost bikes and other things out of their garages I've > started locking my bikes in the garage.
