Oh, it occurs to me that the "Sam Browne" stud may be a rivet-style 
installation, while the "button stud" (a couple entries lower on that same 
linked page) appears to be a threaded arrangement. Seeing that, I'd go for 
the "button stud" even if just as an experiment. The prices are so low that 
you can probably get some of both and see which works better for you.
 
It's funny, I wasn't a big fan of the Big Box throughout the time it was 
available. In retrospect, though, I can see the appeal. I lived with (to 
some extent, "in") a SaddleSack Large for quite a while and found the 
massive capacity was handy. However, the Medium has advantages too; I'm very 
happy with it. But we'll see if winter (and all the layers it requires) 
teaches me anew the value of the Large's spaciousness.
